Courage to Man Up
Courage to Man Up

Scripture: Matthew 8:5-7 KJV

5Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”

7And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”

When we look at the background of this text we find Jesus is completing his great teaching, ‘The sermon on the mount.’ As He finishes He decides to enter Capernaum. Upon arriving there was a Roman centurion or another word for it would be a soldier. A centurion is a Roman official who is in charge of approximately 100 soldiers. He has the rank of a present army captain. He was an employee of the Roman government. He was the person responsible to maintain law and order.

When we think about a centurion we would consider them to be

Steady in action, and reliable;

They aren’t over anxious and don’t rush into the fight;

They stand their ground and willing to die at their posts

Centurion's had the reputation for being notoriously harsh and merciless men

These are some bad brothers;

In the present day when you think about bad brothers & bad sisters you might think about; Mike Tyson, B. A. from the A-Team, Neno Brown from New Jack City, Leanitus from 300, Wonder Woman, Women Warriors of Wakanda, Ronda Rousey, and many many others.

Not only is he a tough guy he is a roman centurion which means they aren’t suppose to associate with Jews yet this man does something that other people weren’t willing to do. As men there are times where you will have to man up and ask for help. I can’t see the centurion asking a person for help however he was willing to put aside pride, status, and prestige to come to Jesus. Men we have to know when our talent, skills, and abilities end and allow Jesus to pick up from there. The Centurion realized he did all that he could to help his servant and needed more help. Be willing to ask Jesus to help you out in situations that are out of your control. Just like the centurion was willing to do.
