Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Chase the Lion – Lessons from Chadwick Bozeman

The Apostle Peter here in these verses strive to help Christians understand that earth isn’t our home or final destination. Peter tells us, that as believers, we are "pilgrims and strangers" in this earth. Which is a reminder that we will look and act a little different than the people whose currently here. When you’ve gone to another state or country you can see that as strangers you observe the culture and at the same time admire how they live and what they do. When you visit the other locations you make the best of it.

As we also think about Chadwick Bozeman and his life he understood that he was on a pilgrimage doing the best he can to make the most of his life here on earth. While alive he played in hit movies such as Jackie Robinson in the biographical film 42 (2013). Get on Up (2014) as singer James Brown and Marshall (2017) as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

This sermon is to celebrate his life but also remind you dear brothers and sisters to chase that lion. Live such a way that there’s no denying you gave it your all.

Point 1 Chadwick Bozeman teaches us that as Kings & Queens we are chosen

Chadwick teaches us that there are people looking out for you without you knowing them or even them really knowing you. There’s a story many of you circulating about how Chadwick had his schooling taken care of. The person didn’t really know Chadwick however at the request of a friend Denzel Washington contributed money that would take care of the expenses for Mr. Bozeman. As I thought about that it made me realize there are people who will take care of your needs at the request of others.

Point 2 Chadwick Bozeman teaches us that as Kings & Queens we have a crown

When you are part of royalty you have access to areas and thing others don’t have access to. As Christians we have unrestricted, unhindered access into the presence of the Lord. We do not need another mediator for our Mediator, the Lord Jesus has broken down all the barriers that once stood between us and God.Dear brothers and sisters Chadwick Bozeman taught us in how he dressed in the movie black panther that we are royalty. Carry yourself like you’re someone special.

Point 3 Chadwick Bozeman teaches us that as Kings & Queens we are new creatures

The apostle Peter lets us know that we are new people by calling us a holy nation. We are considered holy but Jesus, has produced a change in us that now allows us to be what we never could have been before. Dear brothers and sisters you’re not going through all of the stuff that you’re going through to be the same person you were a few years ago. You going through some of the things God is allowing you to go through to be different. But the key is you won’t be the only person that is changed. You’re part of a nation of changed people. You’re part of a community of X’s.

Dear brothers and sisters we are on a pilgrimage and we must make the best of our life while on this journey here on earth.
