The Courage to Grow
Recently I had the opportunity to attend the International Pastor’s and Leaders conference in Dallas, Tx hosted by Bishop TD Jakes. It was a phenomenal experience as I was able to hear from great speakers such as Bishop Dale Bronner, Judah Smith, Bishop Walter Thomas, and others to impart in the leaders attending the conference. As I was walking around enjoying The Potters House facility (especially the new Youth Building) I was wondering how many churches are equipping their leaders for the next shift/move of God?
It is interesting because we see leadership training in corporate America on a routine basis to keep their leadership team on the cutting edge and up to date with the latest technology. But are there enough leadership conferences for the church out there?  If so, are church’s sending their team to these conference’s. The bible says in Hosea 4:6, “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge”. The bible also says in Proverbs 18:16 “a man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men”. Both of these scriptures let us know the importance of bettering ourselves not just in the word of God but also in our field of expertise.
So my question for you is what are you doing to better yourself not just in the church but also in the profession you have outside of the church (if you are not in full time ministry)? In my opinion one of our goals as a Christian should be to become well knowledgeable with the gifts and talents God has given us. Gathering wisdom is not to show off our skills or make ourselves look great but it's to be faithful stewards and representatives for the Kingdom of God.
As the saying goes by Harry Truman “not all readers are leaders but all leaders are readers”. Leaders make sure you are reading and growing in all areas of your life.  Take some time each year to grow your talents and skills while not being afraid of leaving others where they are.
